The Doo Wop Project Croons the Oldies and Latest Hits at Lewis Family Playhouse

May 31, 2019

From bop to pop and directly from Broadway – the Doo Wop Project delivers! Three parts Jersey Boys, two parts Motown: The Musical, and certainly “not your grandma’s doo wop,” this charismatic, triple-threat Quintet along with their sizzling 5-piece band will tear it up with musicality, dancing, and showmanship on Friday, May 31st at 8pm at the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga.

Gold level tickets are $40 for General and $38 for Seniors/Youth. All Platinum level tickets are $45.

Featuring Tony Award-nominated cast members of Jersey Boys, Motown: The Musical, A Bronx Tale: The Musical, Smokey Joe’s Café, and more, the Doo Wop Project begins at the beginning: tracing the evolution of Doo Wop from the classic sound of guys singing harmonies on a street corner to the biggest hits on the radio today. Their dynamic live show takes audiences on a journey featuring foundational tunes from the Crests, Belmonts, and Flamingos through the vocal artistry of Smokey Robinson, The Temptations, and The Four Seasons all the way to Doo-Wopified versions of modern hits from Michael Jackson, Jason Mraz, Maroon 5, and Sam Smith.

The line-up includes Dominic Nolfi (TDP Founding Member; A Bronx Tale, Jersey Boys), Charl Brown (Motown: The Musical—Tony Award Nomination for his role as Smokey Robinson, Jersey Boys, Sister Act), Dominic Scaglione, Jr. (Jersey Boys—Frankie Valli), Dwayne Cooper (Motown: The Musical, Hairspray, Smokey Joe’s Café), and Russell Fischer (Jersey Boys—Joe Pesci, Big: The Musical) with music arrangements by jazz pianist Sonny Paladino (Smokey Joe’s Café, Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812, Jesus Christ Superstar, Billy Elliot, Grease).

Weaving in and out of crisp harmonies over some smooth choreography, the gentlemen also interact with the audience through sharing their personal journeys with this formative music and the influence it has had over their lives and careers. The Doo Wop Project brings unparalleled authenticity of sound and vocal excellence to recreate—and in some cases entirely reimagine— the greatest music in American pop and rock history.
